At last it was time for Carly Rae Jepsen to be the first true headliner of Musikfest 2013. After a two opening bands, the crowd was all warmed up and ready for the newly famed pop singer to take the stage at 8:30. It was a perfect night for a concert in Bethlehem, the sun was setting and the temperature was just right for a summer’s evening. Though the crowd might not have been the most full, they made up for that with their sheer excitement and a lot of screaming. I mean LOTS of screaming. All of sudden, the screaming got louder and just like that Carly Rae Jepsen walked out on stage to begin the show.
Sight of Sound Magazine covered her last summer as part of the 2012 Mixtape Festival and since then she has put a full length album, The Kiss, that was well received by both critics and fans. Her setlist contained a good amount of material from that album including the massive radio hit, “Good Time.” Though, as quickly as it began it was over and she began to belt out a sing along of her most famous (or infamous) song, “Call Me Maybe.” The crowd got louder and louder on each chorus until suddenly it was all over and the people began to file out of Sands Steel Stage for the evening.
As predicted, Carly Rae Jepsen was the shining star of the night’s performance and she raised the bar high for the remaining bands who will be performing on the stage later this week. It was great to see such an upcoming, yet popular artists, have the honor of kicking of this year’s Musikfest. The festival will run until the 11th and features it’s most diverse line up to date. Be sure to check back with Sight of Sound Magazine each night as we cover the main stage to provide you exclusive photos and reviews of this year’s performances.
