Last Friday In This Moment brought their HellPop Tour to the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The band has been out on the road for the majority opening for bands like Stone Sour, playing major festival like Rock on The Range, and now headlining their own tour through the fall and coming winter. This first leg of the HellPop Tour featured support from Motionless in White, Kyng, and All Hail the Yeti. However, In This Moment have had such success with this tour that they announced just earlier today that they will be hitting the road with Butcher Babies in 2014 for the 2nd leg of the HellPop (Dates Below Review).
In This Moment has become known far and wide for their elaborate stage show which guitarist Chris Howorth told me was inspired from bands like Kiss. I sat down with the band for a brief interview before the show and we discussed just how their new image came to be. We crowded into a dressing room corner and talked quickly because the band had to get to their meet and greet with the fans but we still had a great interview. Be sure to watch the full video below (special thanks to Nick Keck for being my camera guy) :
By the time In This Moment hit the stage around 10:30pm, the Sherman Theater had filled in pretty well and had been treated to a pretty heavy night of music already from the openers. A few injuries did occur during Motionless in White’s set and I saw a few fans come out with bloody injuries, hopefully everyone is okay who was involved in that incident. As the lights went dark the stage became dense with fog and the eerie sounds of “It Is Written” was played through the venue’s sound system. As purple lights flickered to life behind the stage the band walked out surrounded by back up dancers and other on stage personal who were involved in the performance just as much as the band was. Maria Brink first wore a red circus style outfit and she began to command the crowd with such ease that it was mind numbing to see.
Through out the night Maria made numerous costume changes that were coordinated to fit the songs most of the time. Her vocals were solid most of the night, especially so on the songs off the bands recent album, “Blood.” I really have to give credit to the guys in the band because they are such a driving force of In This Moment’s stage show and records. Chris Howorth, Travis Johnson, Randy Weitzel, and Tom Hane deserve just as much attention of the front woman of In This Moment because they have such talent. Each time I have seen them perform they have gotten tighter and tighter as a band, and of course they love posing for the photographers in the photo pit which is a total plus!
The band will be out on the road for a few weeks long on the first leg of the HellPop Tour with Motionless in White, tickets are for sale for most dates. I recommend getting out to see the band on this run, whether it be leg 1 or leg 2, because they are bringing a quality of production to small venue stages that I have just never seen before in that setting. The performance is solid, the theatrics are incredible, and the setlist is perfect for new and old fans alike.
