The band has yet to announce what has officially happened at their Webster Hall show last night but the internet has been circulating numerous stories including one that goes as far of the possibility that a fan died last night. The wide variety of statements appearing across social media make it hard to discern the truth from fans who are just chiming in and over reacting but there is a enough to conclude that a fan was injured in some form last night. A general statement that we have seen appear is that fan or possibly two fans jumped off the stage back into the crowd and it was at this moment that the incident occurred. This however is NOT CONFIRMED AT THIS POINT. It is very common place for fans to do this at shows with no barricade or lack of a security presence but there is great risk in doing so.

A similar event happened a few years ago as some readers will know involving Randy Blythe of Lamb of God. The court battles lasted for well over a year after the death of a fan in a similar nature to this, the only difference was that incident took place in Europe. One can simply wonder what the course of action will be here in the States if something like that were to have occurred, it could go as far as resulting in a nationwide policy regarding the safety polices at concerts.

Regardless we hope it doesn’t come to this and things get sorted out before the band loses a year of their career fighting in court. Miss May I is currently out on the road for an “Up Close and Personal Tour” that has been centered fully around getting the fans as close to the band as possible.

5:00 PM – May 4th, 2014 – Just under an hour ago Miss May I released the following statement on their Facebook :

“Hey everyone, we are aware of the incident that occurred at Webster Hall last night and will be posting a statement shortly. However, we are awaiting further information regarding the situation before we are able to make a full statement.”

7:35 PM – May 4th, 2014 – more sites are reporting similar stories to what we have come across. Property of Zack has re-posted the band’s statement and like us is waiting for final confirmation before posting any names of those involved. Horns Up Rock is reporting that a fan has indeed passed away from injuries at sustained at the show but there is no formal confirmation so at this point.

10:00 PM – May 4th, 2014 – we have confirmation from numerous sources that 21 year old Alberto Scott passed away from injuries suffered from allegedly stage diving. Still no official statement from Miss May I regarding the fan’s tragic passing.

10:31 PM – May 4th, 2014 – a way to donate funds to the family has appeared for Alberto Scott’s services posted by Jenisa Ramos Sarraga and shared on the Brooklyn Vegan(Click to visit/contribute : http://www.gofundme.com/8vjoqc) Jenisa also posted the following statement :

“On 5/3/14 this vibrant 21 year old young man with a passion for Screamo music and big dreams went to his favorite band’s concert and collapsed and died after dancing. His only family is his sister and her family who all live in Florida and are already struggling financially. Please consider donating to help this family say goodbye to a life gone way too soon. Any amount would help to ease this family’s burden at this painful time. Thank you in advance.”

2:57 PM – May 5th, 2014 – Miss May I’s official statement is as follows :

“As many of you will have heard, Alberto Scott, a Miss May I fan in attendance at our Webster Hall show on Saturday night tragically died. We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear this news. We are awaiting a full report from the New York Police Department. In the meantime, we’d ask that all your thoughts and prayers be with his family. We have been made aware of a webpage that is raising funds to help pay for his funeral costs. We will be making a contribution and we’d strongly urge others to do so.”

It is still uncertain the exact cause of death and whether it was related to any events that took place during the concert.

As this story develops we will continue to update this with more information. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Alberto Scott involved in this incident as we wait for further details to emerge on this incident and await Miss May I’s official statement.

  1. This young man was my daughter’s best friend and lived in my home. NO ONE blames Miss May I or the venue, that 21 yr old lived and breathed this band and I would ask that everyone just keep his family in prayer. They are struggling financially and the burden of a funeral is overwhelming them right now. R.I.P. Dagoberto Ramos 5.14.92 – 5.3.14

    • Thank you for sharing this information, our thoughts are with the family in this sad time. We know he was a huge fan of the band and we hope that their response to the events that took place comes soon.
