Taking Back Sunday | Artist Spotlight

‘Tidal Wave’, the title of Taking Back Sunday’s newly released album and also the perfect word to describe their intimate show at the Chameleon Club on September 25. The band announced a few months ago that they would be touring very small venues in support of their new album giving their most die-hard fans a unique concert experience unlike any other they have in the past. With in days of it’s announce nearly the entire tour was sold out and resale tickets on StubHub skyrocketed to ridiculous amounts on the week that their album ‘Tidal Wave’ dropped.

The album has been heralded as a return to form for the band but in my opinion Taking Back Sunday never lost their way, ‘Happiness Is’ was a severely underrated album and I’ll be never quiet sure why the critics didn’t take to it as I did. That aside ‘Tidal Wave’ is a truly wonderful album and the expectation/hype for their tour drove fans into a frenzy as the band is set to perform the album from top to bottom every night of the tour.

Playing a full album in concert is never an easy feat, especially only a week after its release as you always have fans who feel they want to hear other music. However the Chameleon Club proved me wrong and I was glad to see it. Time to bring it full circle and explain how ‘Tidal Wave’ also described the show; from the minute the band hit the stage the crowd quiet honestly turned into an ocean and sea of crowd surfers. Security could hardly keep up catching them as they vaulted over the barricade and this was just on the opening track of the night “Death Wolf.” From the the band took the crowd through the entire album and thanked them for their undying support through the years.

There was a short break in the evening after the album completed and then insanity broke out as the band dove into a set that can only be described as the best of Taking Back Sunday. Crowd surfers, mosh pits, sing-a-longs & more took place and the Chameleon Club came to life in a way I’ve never seen it done before. The night ended just before 10PM as the venue had a curfew to stick to and while the fans may have wanted a few more songs they all left satisfied knowing that they just spent their Sunday at one of the most intimate concerts Taking Back Sunday has ever put on in Pennsylvania and will probably ever.
