I was lucky enough to head out to Nashville TN last week to catch two bands I have never really listened to, Half Alive & Sure Sure. Going into the show completely blind to the sound of these bands (other than a quick play through on the drive to the venue) I didn’t know what to anticipate. As the two took on the Cowan at Top Golf last Tuesday it was clear as night went on the room became more and more captivated.
Opening up the night was Sure Sure. From the first note the crowd was into it. They had catchy “art pop” songs and a diverse set of influences bleeding through the speakers (for me I heard a lot of Passion Pit meets Ra Ra Riot). Sure Sure was a band that was VERY difficult to dislike. ACTUALLY, it was impossible! With witty dry humor in between songs and interacting with the crowd on a real intimate level it was easy to be drawn in and laugh.
In June, they released their latest EP What’s It Like?, which was referred to by Ones To Watch as an “[expert blend of] classic and modern.” Prior to it’s release, the lead single/title track was in rotation on SiriusXM AltNation and The Pulse, and was added to over 10 Spotify editorial playlists including New Music Friday, All New Indie, Feel Good Indie Rock and more. The EP was also named one of the Wild Honey Pie’s “most anticipated releases of the summer.”
I have said this a lot since being out here in Nashville Tennessee but it may be because they keep housing some great music in this town, but sky is the limit for Sure Sure. They proved they are worthy of not only opening and supporting Half Alive but that they should stand alone. I see headlining tours, festivals like Firefly, Bonnaroo and more eventually knocking on their doors because their sound and live show just has IT. This was the most upbeat I’ve ever been leaving a show.
If this band isn’t in your daily mix/radar don’t miss out any longer like I was. Check Sure Sure out TODAY!
